How to Prepare For Your Immigration Medical Exam in 2025

Summary of Key Points:

The immigration medical exam is an important step in the Canadian immigration application process. By gathering the required documents for the exam early, you’re able to avoid any unnecessary delays. This includes a passport or government-issued photo ID and your medical history. It may also include vaccine records and other details in applicable cases. Book your appointment at least 30-45 days before your application is due and your results will be sent to the IRCC from the Panel Physician office.

How to Prepare For Your Immigration Medical Exam in 2025

Completing your Immigration Medical Exam (also called an IME) is a required step in Canada’s immigration process for most applicants. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) can’t process your application without a completed exam if you require one, so it’s important to prepare early and gather everything you need before scheduling an appointment.

IMEs must be completed by a registered Panel Physician. Use the free tool on this page to find out exactly what you’ll need to prepare for your appointment, and read about what to expect before and afterwards. Then book your appointment here.

Why a Registered Panel Physician Must Perform Your IME

Only a Panel Physician approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) can perform your Immigration Medical Exam. Exams done by non-approved doctors will be rejected and could delay or void your application.

That’s because Panel Physicians follow specific medical and reporting procedures required by the Canadian government, including using the eMedical system to securely submit your results to IRCC.
